Air Sampling for Fungi in Indoor Environments
نویسنده
چکیده
Mould growth in buildings is a major health issue, but most investigations of the indoor air spora still employ culture-based methods. These are inadequate for assessing exposure, since culturable organisms comprise a small fraction of the total of potentially allergenic/toxigenic units in air. For epidemiological studies, measurement of airborne fungal biomass over extended periods may be more relevant than total counts. Whilst (1+3)-/6D-gkKaU has been used to assess airborne biomass, ergosterol may be the best indicator of exposure. For case studies, patients’ serum has been used to detect specific spores on sampler slides, and both highly specific and less specific antisera could be used either via fluorescent antibody technique or enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. In the future, solid-phase polymerase chain reaction (PCR) may be used to detect pathogens or other well-characterized potentially harmful species, and in at least some groups mycotoxin/secondary metabolite/volatile profiles may be used in identification. c 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd. The majority of diseases caused by air pollution, such as asthma and allergies, are caused by pathogenic bacteria, which are transmitted through bioaerosols. Bacteria and fungi are the main sources of hospital infections causing the majority of diseases and cases of mortality. The aim of this study was to determine the ratio of indoor to outdoor fungi concentration, the effect of population den...

متن کاملInvestigation on distribution of airborne fungi in outdoor environment in Tehran, Iran
BACKGROUND Airborne fungi are responsible for the majority of fungal infections in humans and animals. Outdoor air markedly influences the prevalence of fungal spore levels in indoor air and thus, it is the major source of fungal infections in indoor environments especially in hospitalized individuals. METHODS Using a settle plate method, air sampling (1092 air samples from 93 sampling sites ...

Introduction: One of the harmful pollutants in the indoor environments is particulate matters. Particles smaller than 2.5 micrometer in diameter that are suspend in the industrial environments air are the most deleterious dusts which can cause lung disease and cancer. In present study PM2.5 concentration in the fast-food shops air and its cancer risk for shop workers were assessed. Material ...
